Jefe has been producing for 3 years however have shifted from chasing placements to building a business before jumping into the music business. He is currently invested into growing his clothing brands JEFE and Gas & Beats.
Q: How did you get your producer name?
A: At the time I was working on my landscaping business and was in the middle of mowing when I thought of it. I remembered different times when people kept referring to me as "captain" or "leader", and after telling myself that I was a boss and not a worker I ran with it.
Q: What was your first record placement?
A: I don't have any major placements, but the first song that I produced and out right now is "Balenciaga Blisters" by Dirtball Boog.
Q: What is the biggest lesson you learned while working in the music industry?
A: It's just like high school. Besides from the fact that it's cut throat and all about business, you have a lot grown ups that are replicating what we did as kids in high school, which is playing dress up and try to be one of the popular kids.
Q: What inspired your name?
A: Me being on my time and not really conforming to what others are doing.
Q: What is your favorite record you placed and why?
A: Balenciaga Blisters since it was the first one I produced.
Q: Where are you from, and how did it mold you into the person you are today?
A: I'm from Quincy, FL but my dad's from Mexico and mom from El Salvador which is where my roots take place. I stayed in El Salvador for a while so a lot of what happened there helped me to be more appreciative of what I have yet fueled me to go for more.
Q: What is your favorite DAW and your favorite plug-in to use? Also why?
A: FL studio was the first and only DAW I used to make beats. My favorite plug-in is Omnisphere since it was the first plug-in I bought, and they have a variety of sounds.
Q: What makes you a hot producer?
A: My sound selection and drums highlight my sound. When I produce a song, I tend to bring the best out of an artist whether it be a new flow or bars. Besides making a beat I also know how to record and mix in protools.
